Community Project – Barrydale Playground Skatepark

$1$86

Story

The Playground Skatepark project has relied heavily on community support over the last few years. Some choose to donate funds for buying building materials and others support by providing their labour to build the park, one section at a time.

The skatepark will give much needed recreational and educational opportunities for the Barrydale youth. When Colin turns up on a Saturday morning with the skateboards, news quickly spreads around the community. Within minutes the 5 or 6 children that are there at the start multiply to 30 or so. The joy on the kids’ faces tells its own story as to how valuable this project is.

We hope that this funding push over the next few months enables us to build at least 40% of the skatepark and take it to a place where it is no longer a building site but usable.

For more information on how to help contact us at retail@barrydaleweavers.co.za or +27 (0)28 572 1012.

Details

This month’s featured community project is the Barrydale Playground Skatepark.

Local skating resident Colin Walsh started the project in 2020 and is trying to raise funds to build a skate park for the local children in the Smitsville area of Barrydale.

Currently the kids are skating on the netball court for around 3 hours every 2 weeks. Often there are more children than skateboards, so we also need skateboards and helmets for them.

The products on this page allow you to buy some of the building materials needed or a skateboard to put a smile on these faces. 100% of what you buy will be passed onto the project, we are merely hosting the support page.

Please help us support this worthy cause.
