On one of South Africa’s routes you’ll find one of the few hand weavers in the country, Baerrydale Hand Weavers, as the name suggests. Carol and her team arew based in Barrydale on the Route 62 in the Western Cap. Kit all began in 2007 when she moved her fabric design business there. On the other side of the country,
Tivan Mavuma, was weaving her designs into fabrics to be sold in Johannesburg. It was Tivan, who after moving to Barrydale, with great passion and care , taught townspeople his craft. Barrydale Weavers create tea towels and beach towels from natural unbleached cotton, as well as cushion covers and table cloths, and blankets and throws. Some in
rich dyed colours. As well as rugs made from upcycled cotton waste.
